Choosing a High School

The Secret To Finding The “Fit”
When your student attends a high school “Shadow Day” the important element is the ability to see, feel, hear, touch, even taste the school’s food; all aspects of the school. There is little that can replace the opportunity to see what it is truly like to be a student for a day. It is an opportunity for a potential student to “test drive” the schools they’re considering.

High School’s Open House
Open Houses can have a great impact on decision-making experience in your search to find a fit. Students and their families can access the high school websites for dates and times to attend an open house. Open houses provide the chance to interact with current students and faculty as well as visit and tour the school.

Focus on finding a high school that fits—really fits—and then compare your choices

Even the best-laid plans can go awry when life gets busy, and suddenly your students testing dates and application deadlines are upon you. The more research, planning, and networking that parents/students do starting Middle School and through eighth grade year, the easier the entire high school testing, application and enrollment process will be.

When Selecting a High School, What Will Be The Best Fit?
The majority of WMS graduates attend five area high schools. WMS hosts a High School Night each year in late September to help families get started in finding the right high school fit for them. We invite over ten area high schools to meet with our Westchester families and answer questions. It’s best to start this high school selection process when students enter sixth grade in order to make a well-formed decision by eighth grade. The following is a guide for selecting a high school, because we understand this is a time consuming and challenging process considering all of the various factors.
